TAVR (trans catheter aortic valve replacement) is a minimally invasive procedure that inserts a new valve without removing the old, damaged valve.

TAVR is similar to placing a stent in an artery. It delivers a fully collapsible valve to the damaged valve site through a catheter. Once the new valve is expanded, it pushes the old valve leaflets out of the way and the new valve starts working

Usually valve replacement requires an open-heart procedure with ,in which the chest is surgically opened. The TAVR procedures can be done like an angiogram , through the femoral artery. The recovery is easier and faster, since no surgery is involved. Typically, patients spend 1-2 days in the hospital post procedure, and the recover is similar to post angiogram and stent intervention
