The peonies in my garden are blooming, bringing back memories of my mother’s garden in Romania, – a splash of color and beauty.
There is a special one, popular in Romania – Paeonia romanica Peregrina
The Chinese call Peonies the King of flowers ; were named in honor of Paeon, the physician of the gods.
In southern Romania, in Teleorman county, the Pădurea Troianu Nature Park is home to a reservation of local peonies (Paeonia romanica peregrina), a species that has survived since the glacial era and shows a very special petal colour, a very fluorescent type of red created by a magical orange glow. The 71 hectares area became a reservation in 2004.
