Heart disease and cancer . Why do I need a cardiologist ?

Cancer , per se and the radiation and chemotherapy associated with, may impact heart health for many years. A new approach and discipline have been developed to address heart issues in cancer affected patients .

I saw today “Tara “ in mcardiooncology clinic

Lovely 52 YO with children in high school – the same high school my sons go to . One of her sons had been coming to my house , being friend with one of my boys . I know him , and I cooked dinner for him a few times . Great kid .

She is a 5 years breast cancer survivor , with heart complications .

Radiation and chemotherapy beat the cancer but left her with a weak heart .

We started cardiac treatment and preventive therapy about 2 years ago – part of my cardiology and oncology new clinic

She is doing great in my opinion but not in hers .. symptoms of heart failure started and it’s hard to cope with them at this young age

As a cardio oncologist – I know it’s hard to cope with cancer and heart disease . But .. she will do great , she will win this battle . I say – she is the lucky one who addressed heart disease early ..
