Until 10000 years ago , continental scale ice sheets came and went many times over millions of years shaping mysteriously the earth landscape .

In the late 1600 near present day Glacier Bay a different landscape harbored the Tinglit people . In the place of the Bay , the landscape was a grassy valley with salmon reach streams and dense forests .

In the distance a great glacier sits dormant, pausing before a cataclysmic advance that forced the Tinglit people out of their home around 1750.

The little Ice Age came and went quickly . By 1750 the glacier reached its maximum moving down and cutting into the land .

By 1880 the Glacier melted down creating the present day – Glacier Bay
